Condado’s lively atmosphere set the tone for the adventures to come.
Day 2: Exploring Old San Juan
Old San Juan, with its colorful streets and rich history, was the perfect place to kick off our exploration.
Walkway of Presidents:
A unique spot featuring statues of past U.S. presidents who have had a significant connection to Puerto Rico. It’s a great place to reflect on the island’s ties to the United States.

This massive fort, part of the San Juan National Historic Site, is a testament to Spanish colonial architecture. It offered breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and a fascinating glimpse into the island’s military past.
Paseo de la Princesa:
A scenic promenade lined with trees, historic sculptures, and charming street vendors selling crafts and snacks. We loved strolling here and soaking in the vibrant energy of the city.
La Perla District:
Famous for its colorful houses perched along the coastline and as the backdrop for the “Despacito” music video, this district was bursting with life and culture.
La Fortaleza & Umbrella Street:
Near the governor’s mansion, this street with its hanging umbrellas was a visual delight. The playful colors made for an Instagram-worthy stop.
Puerta de San Juan:
This historic gate, once the main entrance to the city, welcomed us to Old San Juan’s colonial charm. Walking through it felt like stepping into a different era.

The former residence of Juan Ponce de León’s family, this museum offers stunning gardens and a peaceful atmosphere.
San Juan National Historic Site:
We explored this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes city walls and multiple fortifications, immersing ourselves in the island’s fascinating history.
El Morro
Watching the sunset at this iconic fortress was an unforgettable experience. The golden light over the vast ocean was breathtaking.
Food Highlights
Brunch at Chocobar Cortés:
A family-owned gem in Old San Juan, Chocobar Cortés specializes in bean-to-bar Caribbean chocolate. Their brunch, like chocolate-stuffed French toast and chocolate mole, was a delicious treat in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

Lunch at El Jibarito:
We enjoyed authentic Puerto Rican cuisine here, including mofongo and arroz con gandules, in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
Evening at Barrachina:
Known for inventing the piña colada in 1963, Barrachina in Old San Juan offers smooth, creamy piña coladas in a vibrant, tropical setting. It’s a cozy spot to enjoy the drink that made history.
Day 3: Nature and Adventure
This was our day to connect with Puerto Rico’s lush natural beauty, and it did not disappoint.
El Yunque Rainforest Tour:
We started the day early with a tour of El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. As we ventured through lush trails surrounded by towering trees and vibrant tropical plants, the sound of cascading waterfalls and chirping coquí frogs created a serene symphony. One of the highlights was swimming in a refreshing waterfall pool—it felt like nature’s very own spa! Along the way, our guide shared fascinating insights about the rainforest’s ecosystem and its importance to the island.
Snacks
Equipped with snacks, we kept ourselves energized throughout the hike. It was essential for maintaining our stamina as we explored the rainforest’s hidden gems.

Bio Bay Tour
In the evening, we experienced one of the most magical natural phenomena in the world. Puerto Rico is home to three of the only five bioluminescent bays on the planet, and we visited the breathtaking Laguna Grande in Fajardo. As we paddled our kayaks into the lagoon, the water around us began to glow with an otherworldly blue-green light, caused by microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates. The sight of the bioluminescence lighting up with each stroke of our paddles under the canopy of a starry night was truly unforgettable. Our guide explained the science behind this natural wonder, making the experience even more enriching.
Meals
Lunch provided during the tour
The lunch was tasty and delicious, with a variety of options to choose from, ensuring everyone found something they enjoyed. It was a delightful surprise and kept us energized for the rest of the adventure.

To end the day, we dined at Jacinta Cuisine Restaurant, where the flavors were absolutely delicious. The menu offered a creative twist on traditional dishes, and every bite was a celebration of Puerto Rican culinary excellence.

Our final full day was a mix of relaxation and indulgence.
Beach Time
We spent the morning soaking up the sun and enjoying the crystal-clear waters at Balneario del Escambrón. With its calm waters and postcard-worthy views, it was the perfect spot to unwind.
Casa Bacardí
In the afternoon, we visited this world-renowned rum distillery. The guided tour offered fascinating insights into the history and craftsmanship behind Bacardí’s iconic spirits. We ended the visit by sipping refreshing mojitos on their outdoor patio, soaking in the warm Caribbean breeze.
