Day 1: Arrival in Zurich & Exploring the Old Town
Arrival & Train Ride
We landed in Zurich at 1:05 PM, and after clearing immigration and collecting our luggage, we hopped on the scenic 10-minute train ride to Zurich Hauptbahnhof (Zurich HB). Along the way, we passed through the outskirts of the city, catching our first glimpses of Switzerland’s natural beauty—green fields, rolling hills, and charming Swiss architecture.

We checked into our apartment and took a moment to freshen up. By 4:00 PM, we were ready to dive into Zurich’s most beautiful spots, starting with its historic Old Town.

- Niederdorf & Old Town (Altstadt)
We wandered through the heart of Zurich, Niederdorf, the medieval district that felt like something out of a fairytale. Narrow cobblestone streets led us past pastel-colored buildings, quaint cafés, and charming little shops. We strolled along the Limmat River, taking in the picturesque views of Zurich’s history, feeling transported back in time. - Bahnhofstrasse
Next, we visited Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most exclusive shopping streets. As we walked down the tree-lined avenue, we admired the luxury boutiques, Swiss watch stores, and chocolate shops that lined the street. The elegant European architecture added to the atmosphere, and we took our time browsing the window displays and indulging in some people-watching. - Lindenhof
For panoramic views of Zurich, we made our way up to Lindenhof Hill. From here, we were treated to stunning vistas of the Old Town, the Limmat River, and, in the distance, the Alps. We began our day with a scenic 50-minute train ride from Zurich to Lucerne. As the train weaved through lush, rolling green fields and quaint Swiss farmhouses, the majestic Alps slowly emerged on the horizon, adding a dramatic touch to the scenery. This peaceful journey set the tone for the breathtaking landscapes we would soon experience.
Exploring Lucerne – A Fairytale Town on the Lake
Lake Lucerne Sightseeing Cruise – A Dreamlike Boat Ride
- Lucerne truly felt like a dream come true. Nestled between the sparkling Lake Lucerne and towering mountain peaks, the town was like something out of a fairytale. We wandered through charming streets lined with cobblestone paths, historic buildings, and vibrant flowers, soaking in the enchanting atmosphere.
- Next, we boarded a ferry and glided across the shimmering waters of Lake Lucerne. The crystal-clear turquoise waters reflected the majestic surrounding mountains and quaint villages, creating an almost ethereal scene. The panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks and verdant hills made it feel like we were sailing through a living postcard.

Weggis – A Lakeside Hidden Gem
We then headed to Weggis, a serene village tucked between the hills and the lake. The peaceful atmosphere, along with the gentle ripple of swan boats on the water, added to the fairytale charm. Surrounded by beautiful lakeside scenery and lush greenery, it was the perfect place to pause and take in the tranquility.
Vitznau – A Gateway to Heaven
Next, we arrived at Vitznau, a picturesque village nestled at the foot of Mount Rigi. - Rigi Kulm Summit – 360° of Pure Magic: Reaching the summit of Mount Rigi at 1,798 meters (5,899 feet) felt like stepping into another world. The 360° panoramic view from the top was beyond words—crystal-clear lakes, rolling hills, and snow-dusted mountains stretched as far as the eye could see. It was the perfect spot to pause, breathe in the fresh alpine air, and marvel at the majesty of nature.

Meal at Tibits (Vegetarian Haven in Lucerne)
For late lunch, we headed to Tibits, a delightful vegetarian haven. The buffet offered a mix of Swiss-inspired dishes alongside Mediterranean and Asian creations, all made with fresh, organic ingredients. The flavors were vibrant, and the cozy, welcoming ambiance made it an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t get enough of the Rösti with herb-infused toppings, a true Swiss comfort dish.

Chapel Bridge & Old Town Stroll
After lunch, we took a leisurely stroll through Lucerne’s Old Town. The iconic Chapel Bridge, adorned with vibrant flowers, was one of Switzerland’s oldest and most beautiful wooden bridges. As we wandered through the medieval streets lined with frescoed buildings, we felt transported to another time, with new layers of history and beauty around every corner.

Scenic Train Ride from Zurich to Interlaken – A Journey Through Nature’s Masterpiece
We embarked on a two-hour scenic train ride from Zurich to Interlaken, where we were surrounded by the Swiss countryside’s breathtaking beauty. As the train wove through lush green meadows and vibrant alpine forests, we glimpsed sparkling lakes that shimmered beneath the sunlight. Majestic snow-capped peaks loomed in the distance, and the train passed through charming Swiss villages, complete with cows grazing in fields and bells gently clinking. It felt like stepping into a living painting, and the entire journey was filled with an enchanting atmosphere that made us feel as if we were drifting through a dream.

Our first stop was Brienz, a lakeside village steeped in tradition. The stunning Lake Brienz greeted us with its surreal turquoise waters, which seemed almost unreal against the backdrop of towering snow-dusted mountains. Next, we traveled to Spiez, a charming town between Lake Thun and steep, vineyard-covered hills. Its medieval castle stands proudly by the lake. From there, we enjoyed stunning views of the blue waters and snow-capped mountains beyond. We took a leisurely stroll through the vineyards, surrounded by the serenity of this hidden gem. The view from Spiez Castle was jaw-dropping, with the sparkling lake stretching out before us and the towering Alps standing guard in the distance. The peacefulness of this place, combined with the beauty of the landscape, made it feel like Switzerland’s best-kept secret.
Lake Thun & Oberhofen Castle – A Fairytale Castle on the Water 📍 Oberhofen Castle
Next, we visited Lake Thun, where the shimmering blue waters seemed to invite us to relax and enjoy the views. We walked along the lakeside promenade, taking in the beautiful scenery, with small boats gently drifting on the water. The real highlight was Oberhofen Castle, an iconic building that seems to rise directly from the water. The castle’s impressive tower, with its pointed roof and stunning architecture, stood tall. Behind it, the lake and the Alps created a breathtaking backdrop. The entire setting felt like a fairy tale. We were amazed by the romantic beauty of the castle and its surroundings.

At 3,454 meters (11,332 feet) above sea level, Jungfraujoch offers unbeatable views of the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps, and the majestic surrounding mountain peaks. We stood in awe, surrounded by breathtaking vistas that made us feel on top of the world. The clear blue skies and the snow-covered landscape added to the surreal beauty, making it one of the highlights of our Swiss journey.
Ice Palace & Glacier Walk
Next, we ventured into the Ice Palace, a magical world where intricate ice sculptures and frozen tunnels illuminated in ethereal blue light. We marveled at the delicate details of the ice carvings, from animals to castles, all expertly crafted into the frozen landscape. After leaving Jungfraujoch, we headed to Grindelwald, a charming mountain village nestled in the heart of the Bernese Alps. The views here were simply breathtaking, with towering peaks like the Eiger standing proudly in the background. Upon arriving, we headed straight to Bern’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, where history seemed to come alive. We wandered through narrow cobblestone streets lined with medieval buildings, arcades, and fountains, each corner revealing something new. The Aare River, which loops around the town, added to the charm, offering one of the most picturesque views we’ve ever seen in Switzerland. We admired the architecture, taking time to pause and appreciate the beauty and serenity of this well-preserved historical district.
Zytglogge (Astronomical Clock Tower)
Our next stop was the Zytglogge, Bern’s iconic 13th-century astronomical clock tower. At the top of every hour, the clock puts on a mechanical show with moving figurines. It delights visitors with a playful display of history. As the clock chimed, we marveled at its intricate design. For centuries, it has marked time for the people of Bern. It was a fascinating glimpse into the city’s medieval past.

Rose Garden – The Best View of Bern
For an unforgettable view of Bern, we made our way to the Rose Garden. Situated on a hill, the garden is a peaceful retreat filled with vibrant blooms. It also offers the best panoramic view of the city. We admired the red-tiled rooftops, the winding Aare River, and the majestic Alps in the distance. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of Bern in its entirety.
Läderach Chocolate Tasting – Swiss Indulgence
No visit to Switzerland is complete without indulging in some world-renowned Swiss chocolate, so we headed to Läderach, a beloved chocolatier. Here, we treated ourselves to melt-in-your-mouth pralines, handcrafted chocolates, and creamy truffles. Each bite was a heavenly experience, with the rich flavors and smooth textures offering the perfect sweet escape. We savored every moment, knowing this indulgence was a true taste of Swiss luxury.
